Mrs. Mooney runs a boarding house for working men, and her daughter Polly entertains the men by singing and flirting. When Mrs. Mooney discovers that Polly is having an affair with one of the men, Mr. Doran, she tries to trap him into marrying her daughter.

A collection of oddballs and misfits in a midth century boarding house might bring Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont or At the Jerusalem to mind, but whereas Ms Taylor can let rip a bit of flatulence and expose quietly cruel social mores, Mr Trevor's world is disturbing in a more existential way. For William Wagner Bird appears as a limping daemonic demiurge, a Prometheus who has called forth /5(39).   When Mama finally gets the boarding house shined up and running smoothly, and Emmie and Conrad are beginning to fit into their new community, a financial crisis threatens them with homelessness. Join Emmie and Conrad in the tumultuous world flavored with political intrigue, the fight for women’s suffrage, dangerous mining practices, and labor Author: Marcia Melton.
